LNG Tank Insulation | Cryogenic Perlite Fill

Industry Challenge: Ultra-Low-Temperature Thermal Insulation

  • LNG is stored at -162 °C; the annular space of double-walled tanks must minimise boil-off gas (BOG).
  • Perlite fill must resist settling and compaction over a 20–30 year tank service life.
  • Moisture ingress raises thermal conductivity and risks ice formation — material must ship dry and seal well.
  • Tight particle grading is required for a stable, uniform annular-space fill.

Recommended Mineral Specification: Cryogenic Perlite

Bulk Density 50 – 120 kg/m³
Thermal Conductivity ≤ 0.045 W/(m·K)
Particle Size 0.1 – 3 mm
Cryogenic Shrinkage < 0.5 %
Moisture Content < 0.5 %
